Biography

Franco Mutinelli, DMV, Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, Executive Master for Management of Health Authorities (EMMHA), is currently Head of Diagnostic Services Histopathology and Parasitology Department, and of the Experimental Veterinary Sciences Division of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie, Legnaro (Padova), Italy. He is in charge of the National Reference Laboratory for beekeeping.
Activities carried out after the detection of A. tumida in Southern Italy.
Identification and laboratory confirmation of A. tumida.
Training of the colleagues of the local veterinary service and hive inspection in the field. Distribution samples of A. tumida to Italian laboratories and NRL of Member States through the EU RL for honey bee health.
Development and application of PCR for A. tumida in collaboration with EU Reference Laboratory for honey bee health.
Collection and circulation of information on A. tumida outbreak through the website of IZS delle Venezie.
Field survey and identification of beetles on rotten fruits collected in citrus orchards.
Collaboration to define a surveillance program for Italy and Europe (in collaboration with the EU Reference Laboratory for honey bee health).
Scientific advisor to the Ministry of Health.
Participation in the EFSA working group on A. tumida
